EVENTSStardusters – The World Premiere Stardusters is a science fiction radio play created, performed and recorded by students from The Tydeman Centre at The Malling School in East Malling (specialist unit for students with communication difficulties). They make the radio programmes in a lunchtime club, run by teacher, Giles Whitehead. Where the students may feel hampered by pens and paper, on the radio their imaginations run free and they express themselves with wit and humour, creating ever more unlikely scenarios for their ‘superhero’ characters to deal with. In Stardusters a spaceship is hurtling out of control through space some time in the distant future and only Dave, The Cleaner, can save it. Fellow students and staff at the school enjoy hearing the programmes from time to time, but we decided it was time the rest of the world heard about them, hence the World Premiere. The event, which takes place from 6pm on Thursday 18 March, will comprise a presentation of the radio programme, including sound and lighting effects. The students will perform some of the scenes from the programme live. There will also be an opportunity to meet the cast and crew afterwards and the PTA will be holding a raffle and serving refreshments. You can get a sneak preview via the school website at www.themallingschool.kent.sch.uk. Click on the link to Unit Radio on the home page.
3 MILE SPONSORED WALK
LEYBOURNE LAKES
SUNDAY 25 APRIL 2010
10.30AM Join us on
our 2010 sponsored walk to raise funds to help RSPCA Leybourne Animal Centre,
which this year is taking place at Leybourne Lakes, at 10.30am on Sunday
25.04.10. The entrance
to the lakes is at just off the Ham Hill roundabout on the A228 at Snodland,
near to the centre. If you would
like to take part, please collect sponsors and turn up on the day. There will be
a 60p charge to use the car park, which we will refund when you register at the
RSPCA marquee at the start of the walk. Soft drinks and snacks will be
available. If you wish
to bring your dog/dogs they are more than welcome, with the following
conditions:
1.
All dogs must be vaccinated.
2.
You must ensure you have adequate water and poo bags for your dogs.
3.
As the walk is three miles, puppies under 12 months are too young to take
part.
4.
All dogs taking part must be kept under control at all times. If you cannot
collect sponsors but would still like to take part you can join us on the day
for a small donation. DOWNLOAD A SPONSOR FORM
HERE Alternatively
they are available at the centre or can be sent on request. If you would
like to take part please read the following notes though which will help you to
maximise your sponsorship money. I am sure you
will all have heard of Gift Aid. This is where the Government will give us an
extra 28% (or £2.80 per £10) of all monies we have given to us. You will find
on your form a column headed Gift Aid. If your sponsors pay income tax, we can
claim this extra money. So please make sure you ask them if they do pay tax
and, if so, whether they would mind us claiming Gift Aid on their donation. We need their
full name and their home address. They don’t have to fill in their address
completely if they don’t want to, just the house number and post code will
suffice. We cannot claim Gift Aid on monies from donors who give us their work
address. If these
simple conditions are adhered to when filling in the form, we can make SO much
more money to help the animals. So let’s hope
that the weather is kind to us. We have a picturesque venue which is an easy
walk – let’s make the most of it!
