Fun Day & Dog Show 2011
|
2011 proved to be another successful year for
the Fun Day Dog Show and Scurry. We had 240 dogs register for the event and
approximately 500 entrants.
There were so many wonderful dogs that the judges both said what a difficult
time they had when choosing their final six, and both used all of their extra
"special" rosettes.
The most popular classes of the day were Most Handsome Dog and Prettiest
Bitch, which had 40 and 37 entrants respectively.

We had all been watching the
weather forecasts during the week and happily on the day it turned out to be
perfect for the dogs. Cloudy with sunny intervals.
At 10.30 the public started to
arrive along with their best pals and headed for the registration tent. We are
delighted to see old friends (both dogs and owners) turn up each year to support
our main event.
Among the stalls this year was
Roger's Box (with his special fairy dust) and Hoopla (a new game for us this
year). The Centre's shop and ferret picture display looked very impressive and
seemed to be doing a good trade.
The catering marquee and BBQ with
its never ending queue was also very popular. I can personally recommend the
chocolate brownies and bread pudding.
Face painting is always a must and
a special guest was Brewster the Bear who the children were delighted to see.
All in all a good day was had by
all. So a big thank you to all who attended also to Laura Hamilton and to Cllr
Dave Davis (Deputy Mayor) who picked the grand draw prizes and we hope to see
you all again next year.

We have taken photos of all of the winners plus several others on the day. If

The winner of the Most Handsome Dog was Ziggy
owned by Graham Fitzgerald-Scales. Ziggy was re-homed from RSPCA Leybourne in
May 2009. He had been the subject of a Cruelty Prosecution. His owners fell in
love with him at first sight and they say he is a superb dog with a great
temperament. They have been so impressed with him, they recently adopted a White
GSD from another Centre.

The winner of the Prettiest Bitch was Kiska a 4 year old Husky
owned by Mr Yarvey.

All of the winners from each class and the scurry went through to the Best In
Show. We were very lucky this year to have Dancing On Ice Star, Laura Hamilton, judge the Best in Show for us.
Laura met all of the winners and found it very difficult to choose. However
after much thought she gave the Best In Show award to Zen.
Earlier in the day Zen had won the Best Rescue Dog. Zen is approximately 16
years old and is a Chinese Crested Dog. He is very distinctive because he is
bald. His owner Lorraine Telford and her family adopted him from RSPCA Leybourne
approximately 10 years ago. Zen had been rescued from a multi animal household,
along with many other dogs, cats and other animals. His owners were prosecuted
for neglect and found guilty. The case was a very long one and Zen and the other
animals were in the care of the RSPCA for approximately 18 months.

Zen with LauraThe Best In Show 'Runner-up' was Daisy-May, who had previously won Best
Veteran. Daisy-May is a Lurcher X Staffi who is approximately 9 years old and is
owned by the Dunce Family. Callum Dunce was chosen by Daisy when the family
visited the centre in 2008. She lives at home with the family's other pets which
include 2 rabbits. What stood out abut Daisy-May was her friendly nature and her
total calmness, a real gentle giant!!!!

The Scurry
The Scurry was very popular again this year. We had invested
in some new equipment which included a hoop, which proved to be a bit of a
challenge for some dogs. Most ran around it, but they were meant to jump through
it!

It was a close thing between three dogs but at the end of the day, with a
time of 11.78 seconds the winner was Buddy owned by Denise Hyett. Buddy is a
Poodle X Papillon who beat many traditionally faster dogs such as collies and
spaniels to win.
